Petula Moy was the recipient of Inside Business Power List as Top 100 Most Influential Leaders in Hampton Roads in 2022. She was recognized for her impact during the “Anti-Asian Hate” movement in Hampton Roads during the COVID-19 Pandemic within the organization she founded called the Asian American Alliance.

The Asian American Alliance is a nonprofit organization that is focused on promoting cultures and economic growth while being a voice for any social injustice related to the Asian Community.

In order to fill the gap in the Asian community, the Asian American Alliance was founded in 2020. The vision is to bring all cultures together. The mission is to create an environment and opportunity to have Asian and Non-Asian individuals to engage and interact to cultivate cultural relationships that build a stronger community.

Unexpectedly, the COVID-19 Pandemic broke out worldwide in 2020.  At the time, the narrative was that the COVID virus originated from China and the Chinese were to blame.  As a result, Chinese Americans and other Asian Americans were being attacked. The “Asian Hate” hit national news when 8 people were killed in two different Asian Massage Spas in Georgia in 2021. The local news channels broadcasted the tragic news. The Asian American Alliance was interviewed by various news media outlets. The organization became successful in being the Voice to stand up for the Asian community. The organization organized roundtable discussions with Senator Tim Kaine, Congressman Bobby Scott and Asian community leaders and members. A Virtual Vigil was also held to honor the victims of the Georgia tragedy.
